AN ARCTIC SOJOURN By Alan Goddard

Event Details

Wandering Albatross, Snowy Petrel and six types of Penguin on this cruise to Tierra del Fuego and the Antarctic Peninsula
Presented by Alan Goddard chairman of Chesterfield RSPB. Alan will be talking about a trip he recently made to the Antarctic with a particular focus on the birds of the deep south. We look at Tierra del Fuego and its surrounding environment and the crossing of Drake’s passage, reckoned to be the stormiest and roughest crossing in the world, and home to the iconic wandering albatross and the black browed albatross pictured. We visit a number of the Antarctic islands and finish on the Antarctic peninsula itself. Penguins and their raucous colonies where all aspects of life in the wild are played out in full view of awe-stricken observers are a key feature of any Antarctic holiday as are close encounters with seals and whales.
